Our picks this Pride Weekend

Our picks this Pride Weekend

Ways to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community the last weekend of Pride Month.

The backstory

How is it the end of June already?

We’d be lying if we said this Pride Month has been the happiest yet. On top of the pandemic, recent events sparked by the racial injustices in our communities has sobered the usual celebratory sentiments around Pride and reminded us that Pride started as a protest and still is a protest as equality for all LGBTQIA people is not the reality.

For us, we’ve had highs and lows. We’ve had dance parties for two and quiet moments of reflection. We’re grateful, hopeful, frustrated and impatient. We’re on edge, energized, focused and isolated. We’re alive and privileged.

By now, we hope, you know everyone’s on their own journey to coming to terms with how they’ve hurt or have been hurt by others and the systems designed to divide us. So, before we share the ways we intend to mark this final weekend of Pride Month, we leave you with this quote from Marsha P. Johnson.

"You never completely have your rights, one person, until you all have your rights."
